Kemendikbud Launches National Literacy Movement

Coinciding with the Peak of 2017 Lunar Language and Literature, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) launched the National Literacy Movement (GLN).

Armed with strong and tough characters, we will be able to face challenges. Even, it can turn challenges into opportunities

Minister of Education and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy said, in the era of globalization, all components of the nation require equipping themselves with literacy intelligence in various aspects.

The aspect in question is not only the ability to read and write, but it must be intelligent in literacy in the field of technology, information, law, politics, economy, and culture.

"Through the intelligence, we hope not only able to survive, but also able to contribute and compete in global life," he said, when he declared the GLN in Kemendikbud Office Jalan Sudirman, Central Jakarta, Saturday (10/28).

Talk about intelligence, he continued, should also be accompanied by strengthening the character to form the nation's personality.

"Armed with strong and tough characters, we will be able to face challenges. Even, it can turn challenges into opportunities," he explained.

He assessed GLN requires support from all components of the nation. Thus, it can provide tangible results.

"The nation's cultural wealth, the diversity of languages, and the values of wisdom must be able to strengthen the identity and character of the nation," he finished.
